Two notorious muggers arrested in Rangpur city

RANGPUR, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested two notorious muggers and recovered a motorcycle, two mobile phone, wallets and domestic weapons used in mugging in the Rangpur city last night. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat police station Md Shah Alam confirmed the matter today. 

Earlier, Monirul Islam Miran, an undergraduate student of Rangpur Carmichael College and Indian citizen Satyam of Rangpur Prime Medical College came back to Rangpur city from Dhaka by a night coach bus in the early morning on Wednesday. 

After getting down from the bus at the city’s Modern area, both of them were going to the Central Bus Terminal adjacent to R K Road by a rickshaw. 

On the way, three muggers riding on a motorcycle stopped the victims by showing them local weapons and snatched two mobile phones, a bank ATM card, cash money and necessary documents from them around 5am. 

OC Sham Alam said that a case was filed after taking the victim’s statement at Rangpur Metropolitan Tajhat police station. 

“Later, we conducted massive operations and arrested two muggers from the Kamarpara area in the city and recovered the snatched goods,” he added. 

The detainees are identified as Md. Al Shahriar Sahas (26), son of late Gausul Haque of New Adarshapara area and Md. Niloy Hossain Tanu (27), son of Md. Shahin Hossain of Alamnagar Pirpur area in the metropolis. 

“We handed over the arrested muggers to Rangpur court this afternoon. Later, the court sent them to jail,” the OC added.
