Ferry services on Aricha-Kazirhat route resumes after 5.30 hour

MANIKGANJ, Feb 21, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said the ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route in the Jamuna river resumed this morning after a 5.30 hours suspension due to dense fog.

"Dense fog blanketed the Aricha-Kazirhat river route on the river Jamuna, forcing us to suspend the ferry movements at 2 am on Tuesday. The services were resumed 5.30 hours later at 7.30 am today (Tuesday)," said Md. Abdullah, manager of BIWTC Aricha Ghat.

"The ferries were anchored at the Ghats during the suspension period," he said, adding that movement of the ferries resumed at 7.30 am today with full loads.

Meanwhile, the ferry movement between Paturia-Daulatdia river route was suspended for three hours due to dense fog disruption, BIWTC Paturia Ghat sources said.

BIWTC Paturia Ghat Assistant General Manager (AGM) Abdus Salam said the ferry services between Paturia-Daulatdia river route was suspended for three hours from 3am to 6am on Friday due to dense fog. 

Three ferries-- Shah Keramat Ali, Hasna Hena and Vigar-- were waiting at Paturia Ghat, seven ferries-- Golam Maula, Dhaka, Bir Shreshtha Motiur Rahman, Birshreshtha Jahangir, Bonolota, Gouri and Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin-- were at Daulatdia Ghat and two ferries-- Shah Enayetpuri and Khan Jahan Ali-- were stranded in the midstream of the Padma river with vehicles and passengers during the period.

The ferry movement became normal at 6am today when the dense fog disappeared, the sources added.
