Woman dies in lightning strike in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) - An elderly woman died after being struck by lightning 
while picking potatoes in village Kaliganj Mandalpara of Badarganj upazila of the district at 
10 am today.
 
“The deceased was Sahida Begum, 70, wife of Afsar Ali of the same village,” Officer-in-
Charge (OC) of Badarganj police station AKM Atiqur Rahman told local journalists.
 
Quoting local sources, the OC said that there was a light rain accompanied by lightning in the morning. 
 
At that time, Shahida Begum and her son Anisur Rahman, 45, were working in their potato 
field. 
 
As soon as the lightning struck, she fell on the ground and died on the spot while her son was seriously injured. Later, locals recovered her body from the scene. 
 
Local people sent Anisur Rahman to the hospital for treatment.
