Tuberculosis Day observed in Naogaon

NAOGAON, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - World Tuberculosis Day was observed in 
the district today in a befitting manner.

A discussion meeting was held at the Civil Surgeon's Office auditorium at noon 
organized by the Civil Surgeon's Office in collaboration with BRAC.

Presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, it was addressed, among 
others, by Moktar Hossain, Principal of Naogaon Medical College, Dr. Zahid 
Nazrul Chowdhury, BMA Naogaon President Iskender Hossain, Naogaon 
Medical College Professor Lutfar Rahman, BRAC District Coordinator Swapan 
Kumar Mistry.

Earlier, a rally was brought out at 11:30 am and it paraded different roads of the 
town.

District Surveillance Medical Officer Dr. Joyita Saha made a presentation on the 
tuberculosis situation in Bangladesh and Naogaon. 

Dr. Joyita Saha said that in 2024, a total of 3 lakh 13 thousand 624 tuberculosis 
patients were identified after testing more than 3 million people across the 
country.

In Naogaon, 521 people were identified with tuberculosis in 2024. Currently, 
there are a total of 37 thousand 3 tuberculosis positive patients in the district. 

The capacity to identify tuberculosis has increased. There are GeneXpert 
machines in 11 upazila health complexes of the district for identifying 
tuberculosis.
