River Police seize huge illegal fishing nets, arrest 315 in 7 days

DHAKA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - The River Police has seized huge illegal fishing nets and arrested 315 crime suspects in a nationwide operation in the past week.
 
As part of protecting the country's fisheries resources and ensuring safety on the waterways, the River Police seized over 2.71 crore meters of illegal nets, 2,448 kg of fish and 221 bushes were destroyed from the river, said a press release of the force.

 
During the period, the River Police arrested 315 suspects from across the country.
 
A total of 76 cases including 41 under Fisheries Act, 20, 20 for reckless driving, three under Narcotics Control Act, three under Balumahal Act, and two murder and seven unnatural death cases were filed.
 
Twenty-one bodies were recovered from different parts of the country in the past seven days.
 
In this operation the River Police filed cases against 101 bulkheads in the Naval Court and three dredgers were seized.
 
The seized illegal nets were destroyed and the fish were distributed to the orphanage.
