Business establishment fined Tk 20,000 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 24, 2025 (BSS) – A mobile court in a drive fined a business establishment Tk 20,000 for allegedly cheating on weight while selling sweets at the Bhanga Masjid intersection on the Station Road in the city today.
 
“The Rangpur divisional office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Rangpur district administration jointly conducted the drive,” said a press release here.
 
Executive Magistrate of Rangpur district administration Md. Pratyay Hashem led the mobile court.
 
The court fined ‘Muslim Sweets and Dadhi Bhandar’ Taka 20,000 under Section 29/46 of the 'Weights and Measurement Act-2018' for selling sweets and yogurt by measuring them in packets.
 
At the same time, BSTI has hung up a warning notice there for measuring sweets and yogurt without taking into account the weight of the packet/wrapper as per Section 24 of the "Weights and Measurement Standards Act, 2018".
 
The BSTI prosecutors were Field Officer (Certification Marks) Marufa Begum and Inspector (Metrology) Md. Nasir Uddin of BSTI Divisional Office, Rangpur, served as prosecutors. 
 
“The Rangpur divisional BSTI office will continue such campaigns in the public interest,” the release added.
