6 road transport extortionists arrested in Rangpur city

RANGPUR, April 24, 2025 (BSS) - A joint team of Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police and Bangladesh Army in a special drive arrested six road transport extortionists from Modern Mour Bus Stand area in the city on Wednesday night.

 On a tip off, "The joint drive was conducted in that area under Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station at 9:30 pm to prevent extortion in the road transport sector of Rangpur metropolis," according to a press release.

 The drive conducted by the DB Police Inspector Ashok Kumar Chauhan said, "The operational team arrested the six extortionists red-handed while they were illegally collecting extortion from various long-distance buses of road transport."

 The arrested persons are Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, 46, Md. Farid Khan Mithu, 54, Md. Shamim Hossain, 48, Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, 54, Md. Anwar Hossain, 46, and Deepak Sarkar, 48.

 "After filing a case in this connection, the DB Police handed over the detainees to Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station today," Officer-in-Charge of Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station Md Shah Alam told BSS this noon.
