GAZIPUR, April 24, 2025 (BSS)-A total of 28 dealers for open market sale (OMS) were appointed in the district through lottery for next five years at the Deputy Commissioner's (DC's) office here yesterday.

The lottery was held with the direct participation of 154 applicants who applied for the dealership through different national and local dailies for the upazilas and pourashavas of the district. The district administration arranged the open lottery for appointing the dealers for ensuring transparency and accountability.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gazipur Nafisa Arefin was present at the event as chief guest.

Among others , Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) General Mohtasim Billah, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension Md Rafiqul Islam Khan, Additional Police Super Md Mokammel Hossain Reza, Zonal Executive Officer of Gazipur City Corporation Md Firoz Al Mamun and District Food Controller Md Shafi Afzalul Alam were present.

The appointed dealers will sale per kilogram (KG) rice at a cost of Taka 30 and per KG wheat at Taka 24 throughout the district. 

The DC in his concluding speech said, "The newly appointed dealers would be trained and the district administration will monitor the OMS activities across the district". 

Through this appointment, the food security of the poor and low income people of the district would be ensured and the OMS activities would also be expedited further, the DC added.
