Two killed, fugitive bus driver arrested

RANGPUR, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive bus driver in connection with a fatal road accident that killed two people in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha last year.

The accused, Shakil Mia, 35, son of Md. Abdul Sobhan from Chhoto Bhagwanpur village in Palashbari, was apprehended by the elite force at 6:10pm yesterday from the Palashbari bus stand area, said a press release today.

On August 28, 2024, Shakil Mia was driving recklessly when his bus collided with a battery-run van, killing the van driver, Rubel Hossain, 40, and a passenger, Rezaul Karim, 35. Following the accident, Shakil Mia went into hiding.

A case was filed with the Palashbari Police Station after the incident. 

After his arrest, the RAB handed Shakil Mia over to the police station for legal action.
