Library set up in Munshiganj jail custody

MUNSHIGANJ, May 14, 2025 (BSS) - A library has been set up in the women's custody section of Munshiganj jail with the aim of helping inmates reintegrate into normal life.

Munshiganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Gazi Delwar Hossain inaugurated the library yesterday afternoon.

Earlier, a similar library was established in the men's custody section on January 7.

Speaking at the inauguration, Magistrate Gazi Delwar Hossain said that until prisoners are presented before the judicial court, they will have the opportunity to spend time reading various types of books.

He noted that for the purpose of self-purification and moral development, the library initially includes religious books and biographies of great personalities.

However, other types of books will gradually be added to the collection.

Among others present at the event were Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Ziaur Rahman, Senior Judicial Magistrates Shahidul Islam, Manik Das, and Muhsina Hossain Tushi, District Bar Association President Advocate Md. Zakaria Mollah, Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Halim Hossain, Government Pleader Advocate Tota Mia, and District Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Parvez Alam.
