21 Maunds of sea fish seized in Kalapara

PATUAKHALI, May 14, 2025 (BSS) – The Payra Port river police today seized 21 maunds of different species of sea fish including shrimp, laitya and poa from a passenger launch MV Soheli in Kalapara.

The fishes, seized from Andharmanik River near Payra Port this late afternoon were later distributed among orphanages, madrasas, and impoverished persons by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Yasin Sadek at Baliatoli launch ghat.

The estimated market value of the seized fish is TK 4 lakh.

Yasin Sadek said some unscrupulous fishermen caught those fishes despite the 58-day ban on sea fishing, which has been enforced during April 15 to June 11. 

Legal actions are on against the illegal fishermen, he added.
