Joyous rally for unveiling foundation stone of Kalurghat Bridge

CHATTOGRAM, May 15, 2025 (BSS) - The long-awaited dream of the people of South Chattogram, including Boalkhali-Patiya, is finally going to be fulfilled after the official move to implement Karnaphuli rail-cum-road bridge over the Karnaphuli River.
 
Terming it as no longer just a dream but reality, the people of south Chattogram brought out a joyous rally for unveiling the foundation stone of Kalurghat Bridge today.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday has unveiled the foundation stone of the Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River.

Once the bridge is built, South Chattogram and the tourist town Cox's Bazar will be connected to Chattogram city with a third bridge, bringing huge benefits to the people of the country, he said.

The much-anticipated bridge will be built connecting Boalkhali upazila on the north bank and Patiya on the south bank on the Karnaphuli River.

The day after the foundation laying, the Boalkhali Kalurghat Bridge Implementation Council and Boalkhali Civil Society took out a joyous procession on Thursday morning.

The joyous rally ended at 10 am on Thursday at the western end of the bridge to the eastern bank. A brief gathering was held there with journalist Mustafa Nayem, joint convener of the Boalkhali Kalurghat Bridge Implementation Council as the chair.
 
The rally, moderated by Journalist Mohammad Ali, while columnist and prominent publisher Syed Zakir Hossain, journalist Manjur Morshed, Engineer Iqbal Hossain and BNP leader Shahidullah Chowdhury, among others, addressed the function.

The speakers expressed their gratitude to Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Advisor to the Ministry of Roads, Bridges, and Railways Dr. Fouzul Kabir Khan, and everyone involved in laying the foundation stone for the construction of the bridge that will benefit millions of people in southern Chattogram.

The speakers said that after many ups and downs, the dream of the Kalurghat Bridge is finally becoming a reality today. Visible progress on the bridge construction will move forward quickly, they added.
 
Through the bridge, a new era will begin in the Boalkhali-Patiya area, with Industrial development and progress moving forward.
