Touchstone idol worth Tk 1 crore seized in Panchagarh

RANGPUR, May 16, 2025 (BSS) - A precious black touchstone Vishnu idol worth Taka one crore was seized and a suspected smuggler arrested from Matiapara village of Debiganj police station in Panchagarh district on Thursday afternoon.
 
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Crime Prevention Company (CPC)-2 RAB-13 from Nilphamari camp recovered the touchstone Vishnu idol measuring 32 inches in length, 13.5 inches in width and weighing 33.5 kg from the spot at 3.05pm, said a press release. 
 
During the operation, RAB arrested Md Abu Bakkar Siddique, 29, son of Mubarak Sheikh of Madarer Jhar village of Debiganj police station in Panchagarh district. 
 
Following the seizure, a case was filed and the detainee was handed over to Debiganj police for further legal proceedings.
