79 shops gutted in devastating fire in Sreenagar

MUNSHIGANJ, May 16, 2025 (BSS) - A massive fire at Sreenagar Bazar in Munshiganj gutted 79 shops in the early hours of today.

The fire broke out at 2 am in Batt Tola area of ??Sreenagar Bazar, burning down shops in the Kapor Potti, Murgi Potti and Bania Potti lanes.

 The fire originated in the middle of the market and spread to the surrounding areas quickly, station officer of Sreenagar Fire Service Station Dewan Amzad Hossain told BSS.

On information, four fire engines from Sreenagar, Louhajang and Sirajdikhan rushed to the spot and doused the flame at 7 am.

"Initially it seems that the fire broke out in the Kapor Potti area and spread to the adjacent lanes. There were no casualties in the fire. The extent of the damage could not be determined yet," said Shakil Ahammed, officer-in-charge of Sreenagar Police Station.

Public Works and Housing Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan visited the spot this morning and said that the Ministry of Disaster Management has already been contacted. After receiving the report from the Fire Service, the damage will be assessed and assistance will be provided to the affected people through the administration, he added.

Meanwhile, BNP's Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu has expressed sorrow and sympathy to the traders affected by the devastating fire.
