Fugitive accused of fraud case held in Gaibandha

RANGPUR, May 19, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested a fugitive accused sentenced to two years in prison in a fraud case on Sunday.

 The arrested accused has been identified as Md Sohel, 45, son of Md Badiuzzaman of Samajpara Taluk Kanupur village under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district, a press release said today.

 The arrested accused had been absconding to avoid arrest by the police in a fraud case filed against him at Laksmipur Sadar police station in Laksmipur district under sections 406 and 420 of the Penal Code on July 9, 2010.

 Later, after a trial in his absence, a court in Laksmipur sentenced him to two years in prison, another year in prison in default of payment of a fine of Taka 10,000, and issued a warrant against him.

 An operational team of the Crime Prevention Company (CPC)-3 of RAB-13 from Gaibandha Camp in a raid arrested Sohel from his house in village Samajpara Taluk Kanupur at 2:30 pm on Sunday.
    
 The arrested convict has been handed over to the Laksmipur Sadar police station for further legal action, the release said.
