KHULNA, May 30, 2025 (BSS) – The 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, was observed here today recalling his contribution to the country.
As part of their five-day programmes, Khulna BNP organized a mourning rally and discussion meeting today.
The mourning rally was held in Khulna on the occasion of the 44th death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and pioneer of multi-party democracy in the country.
Despite inclement weather, the rally began at 10.00 am today in front of Shaheed Hadis Park and marched through the main streets of the city.
Organised by the BNP’s Khulna city and district units, BNP’s Information Affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna city BNP President Shafiqul Alam Mona, District BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Montu, City BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, City BNP Organizing Secretary Sheikh Sadi, Masud Parvez Babu, Hasanur Rashid Miraj, District BNP Joint Conveners Zulfikar Ali Zulu, Molla Khairul Islam, Enamul Haque Sojal, and Gazi Taslim Ahmed, among others, were present.
On the occasion, black flags were hoisted at the city BNP office and all party offices, party members wore black badges and special prayers were offered at the city office.
The Sadar Thana BNP also organized food distribution (tabarak) among the destitute people.
In addition, special prayers and food distribution were held at all mosques within the Khulna city and district areas, while prayers were also offered at temples and churches.
Documentary films were screened in all thana unit BNP offices using projectors.
The Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal organized a meal distribution at the Lillah Boarding in the city, while the BNP women’s wing held a discussion, prayer session, and clothing distribution and the BNP’s farmers’ wing also arranged food distribution in memory of Ziaur Rahman.
A discussion meeting was held at the city BNP office with city unit BNP president advocate Shafiqul Islam Mona in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, BNP’s Information Affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal said Ziaur Rahman launched a massive campaign and carried out development programmes to defuse the frustration of people. He played a strong role in establishing unity and harmony among the Muslim Ummah and resolved many international problems, he added.
Helal said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was the architect of modern Bangladesh and established all the necessary traditions and institutions to give the country a strong footing.
Another discussion was also held this afternoon at Tolna JPDS girls school in Fultala upazila. District unit BNP organized it with district unit BNP convener Moniruzzaman Montu in the chair.
Ex-MP and former President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Ali Asgor Lobi addressed it as chief guest.
Later, a doa mahfil was held and food was distributed among the poor people.
