KHULNA, July 1, 2025 (BSS) – Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Md. Firoz Sarkar on Tuesday said that KCC has been making all-out efforts to prevent urban flooding during the rainy season.

He made the remarks while visiting the Alutala Dashgate area, in the southern part of the city to see himself the ongoing silt removal works in the Mayur River.

He said KCC has initiated the silt removal work to prevent water-logging during the monsoon season using a water master and floating excavators.

In addition to clearing major drainage channels, they are identifying and promptly addressing flow obstructions, he added.

Sarkar, who is also the Khulna divisional commissioner mentioned that reduced navigability at the confluence of the Rupsha (Kazibacha) and Mayur rivers has been obstructing water flow during low tide.

Increasing the navigability through silt removal is expected to improve water flow and help mitigate water-logging problem, he said and urged citizens and community leaders to support KCC’s initiatives to this end.

KCC Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, leaders of the Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee and others senior officials of KCC, among others, were accompanying the KCC Administrator during his visit.
