CCC evicts over 100 illegal shops, establishments in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, July 3, 2025 (BSS)- Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) today demolished more than 100 illegal shops occupying footpaths in Station Road, New Market intersection, and Riazuddin Bazar areas of the city.

During the three-hour-long drive, fines amounting to Taka 17,000 were realized in 12 cases from as many shopkeepers who were operating without valid trade licenses under the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009.

The operation, which began at 10 am, was led by CCC Regional Executive Officer Pranoy Chakma in cooperation.

"Regular drives are being conducted against illegal occupation of footpaths under the directives of Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain," said Pranoy Chakma.

He said hawkers have been instructed not to run their business before 3 pm and may only operate using wheeled mobile vehicles. Erecting permanent or temporary structures on footpaths is strictly prohibited.

The CCC official further said that similar operations will continue in key areas of the city to ensure smooth movement of pedestrians and reduce public inconvenience.
