Shrimp larvae worth Tk 4.65cr seized in Patuakhali

PATUAKHALI, July 3, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) and the 
Department of Fisheries, in a joint operation, seized 1.55 crore pieces of 
shrimp larvae worth approximately Taka 4.65 crore at Patuakhali sadar upazila 
early today.

The operation, conducted around 4 am near the old airport area, was based on 
a secret tip-off, said Harun-or-Rashid, lieutenant commander (Media Officer) 
at the Coast Guard Headquarters.

During the raid, a suspicious truck, leaving Kuakata for Bagerhat, was 
intercepted and searched, he said, "Authorities discovered the larvae being 
transported illegally without proper documentation or permits."

Following the seizure, the larvae were safely released into the Lohalia River 
in the presence of the Patuakhali Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer, ensuring 
minimal ecological damage.
