RANGPUR, July 3, 2025 (BSS) - After a patient died due to medical negligence, two private clinic authorities were fined Taka four-lakh and their two operation theatres (OTs) were sealed in Rangpur city today.

The district administration and health department jointly conducted a drive at 'Bangladesh Hospital' and 'Rainbow Clinic' in the Dhap area of Rangpur city and took the actions.

Rangpur district administration executive magistrate Israt Jahan led the drive, along with Rangpur civil surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana and assistant director of the Divisional Health Director's Office Dr Md Meshkatul Abed.

Officials said the two private sector health service-providing institutions had been conducting medical activities without valid documents for a long time.

There were no trained doctors and adequate manpower. The operation theaters were operating in a dirty and unsafe environment.

During the drive, the executive magistrate fined Bangladesh Hospital and Rainbow Clinic Taka two-lakh each and sealed the operation theaters of both clinics.

After the operation, executive magistrate Israt Jahan told reporters, "The investigation into the patient's death has shown that extreme irregularities are taking place in these two clinics. We have taken legal action to protect public health."

Rangpur civil surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana said, "We will not give any concessions to malpractice and unauthorized activities. We will not allow
public health to be played with."

Assistant director of the Divisional Health Director's Office Dr Md Meshkatul Abed said, "Awareness is being raised so that the general public does not seek treatment in such clinics. Stricter action will be taken in the future."
