BRAHMANBARIA, July 4, 2025 (BSS) - Two siblings drowned while attempting to collect water lilies from a ditch in Shantinagar village under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Hossain, 11, and his sister Zinnat, 8, children of Akkas Mia of the same village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Md. Muzaffar Hossain confirmed the matter.

Quoting family members, the OC said the children often went to a nearby ditch to pick water lilies. On Thursday afternoon, they left home as usual but did not return.

On Friday morning, locals found their bodies floating in the ditch and brought them home, said Yasmin Begum, the deceased's aunt.

Police visited the spot upon receiving the information and took necessary steps, the OC added.
