College student killed Joypurhat lightning strike

JOYPURHAT, July 17, 2025 (BSS) - A college student died after being struck by lightning on Wednesday evening at Amira village in Khetlal upazila of the district.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hannan Jafar, 25, a third-year Accounting student at Akkelpur M R Degree College. He was the son of Hafizar Rahman, a resident of Amira village.

The incident occurred while Jafar was preparing land for planting Aman paddy seedlings on his family's farmland, according to Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Khetlal Police Station.

Locals rescued and rushed him to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
