SYLHET, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - Smuggled goods worth around Taka six crore have been seized in a special overnight operation conducted by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Bangladesh Army in the border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
The operation, carried out early Friday morning, targeted several border points across the two districts, according to a press release issued by the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB).
The release stated that BGB personnel from the Pratappur, Damdamia, Sripur, Bichnakandi and Sonalichela Border Outposts (BOPs) seized a large quantity of Indian sarees, skin brightening creams, sunglasses, cattle, and boats used for illegal stone extraction.
In a separate raid, a special patrol team from the battalion, aided by troops from the Bangladesh Army's Haripur Camp, uncovered a stockpile of smuggled goods hidden in an abandoned warehouse near the Sari River between Goainghat and Fatehpur.
The seized items included large quantities of Indian fairness cream, ultra bright cream, skin shine cream, Betnovate-N Cream, and Gillette blades.
The total estimated value of the confiscated goods is around Taka six crore.
Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Haque, commanding officer of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), said the force continues its operations and intelligence surveillance to ensure border security and curb smuggling and drug trafficking.
Legal measures are being taken regarding the seized contraband items, he added.
