Coast Guard seizes 2-boat carrying 20-kg shark

BHOLA, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has seized two fishing boats carrying 800 kilograms (Kgs) of marine fish including 20-kg of shark during a raid at Gazaria Launch Ghat in Lalmohan under Bhola district.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid gave the information on Thursday through a press release. 

According to the release, he said: "Based on secret information, a special operation was conducted by the Coast Guard Outpost Lalmohan under the BCG South Zone recently in the area adjacent to Gazaria Launch Ghat under Lalmohan Police Station of Bhola. 

During the operation, two illegal artisanal trawling boats (FB Mayer Doa-2 and FB Nabipur-4) and 800-kg of marine fish, including 20-kg of shark, were seized.

Later, the seized marine fish were handed over to the Lalmohan Upazila Fisheries Department, the shark fish were destroyed in the presence of forest department representatives, and a case was filed against the owner of seized trawling boats at Lalmohan Police Station.

He further said that Bangladesh Coast Guard has been patrolling 24 hours a day to maintain the law and order situation in the country. 

Through this, the law and order situation in the coastal and riverine areas under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard has improved to a great extent. Such patrols are being carried out to protect the fishery resources in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard.

The active campaign will continue in the future.
