Symbolic marathon commemorating July Mass Uprising held in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - A symbolic marathon commemorating the July Mass Uprising was held in Rajshahi city today with the participation of family members of martyrs and injured fighters. 

The event was organized by the district administration as part of the 'July Punarjagaran' programme series, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Mainul Haque, father of Sakib Anjum-one of the July martyrs in Rajshahi-formally inaugurated the marathon at the premises of the Collectorate Building.

After parading through key roads of the city, the commemorative rally returned and concluded at the starting point. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mainul Haque termed the symbolic marathon as highly commendable. He said such initiatives will inspire the younger generation to follow the ideals of the martyrs and fighters who resisted the injustices of the previous fascist regime. He added that the event would help promote the spirit of the July Uprising.

Nureshan Khatun, wife of another martyr, Minarul, expressed hope that both the current interim government and the upcoming elected government would work to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the July martyrs.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Khondoker Azim Ahmed, Additional Commissioner Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter, Superintendent of Police Farzana Islam, and Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development ATM Golam Mahbub were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed said the July Uprising is an unforgettable chapter in the nation's history and the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs will not go in vain.

He also reaffirmed the government's and administration's commitment to building a society free from inequality and injustice.
