GAZIPUR, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van in the Phulbaria Borochala area under Kaliakair upazila of the district today. 

The deceased were identified as Jahidul Islam, 35, his wife Nasreen Nahar, 30, and their son-whose name police could not confirm-of the Ishwarghat area in Dhunot upazila of Bogura; and Shofiqul Islam, 55, son of late Omar Ali, from the Keora area of Mawna union of Gazipur district. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Mannan of Kaliakair Police Station confirmed the matter. 

Locals and police said the auto-rickshaw carrying passengers was heading towards Kaliakair from Mawna when it collided head-on with a covered van coming from the opposite direction. Two passengers died on the spot. 

Three others were critically injured and rushed to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where two more succumbed to their injuries.

The bodies have been sent to the morgue at Gazipur Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital. Legal procedures are underway, said the OC.
