2 security guards held with illegal firearms, bullets in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 18, 2025 (BSS) - Rangpur Kotwali metropolitan police in daylong separate drives recovered three illegal firearms with 15 rounds of bullets from three security guards of three private banks in the city on Thursday. 
 
Two of the three security guards were arrested in the incidents, while the third one managed to escape by abandoning his weapons and ammunition during the operation.
 
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Kotwali metropolitan police station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md Ataur Rahman disclosed the information at a press briefing on Friday afternoon.

The seized include a point 12-bore double-barreled gun and two single-
barreled guns, three fake arms licenses and fifteen rounds of bullets. 
 
Three cases have been filed under the Arms Act in this incident. 
 
"While increasing security patrols at banking and insurance institutions, we conducted raids at Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTBL) at Jahaj Company Mour, Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) at Betpotti and Jamuna Bank Limited (JBL) at Walton Mour in the city based on secret information. 

 In a separate operation, MTBL security guard Shahadat Hossain and JBL 
security guard Zahurul Haque were arrested. 
 
At that time, DBBL security guard Moshfequr Rahman fled leaving behind his weapon and ammunition. 
 
OC Ataur further said that Sub-inspector (SI) of Rangpur Kotwali metropolitan police station Mahfuzur Rahman has filed three separate cases under the Arms Act in each of the incidents of weapon recovery. 
 
"The two arrested accused were sent to jail when produced before a Rangpur court this afternoon. Efforts are underway to arrest the absconding security guard Moshfequr Rahman," the OC added.
