Khulna Jamaat leader killed in Faridpur road mishap

KHULNA, July 19, 2025(BSS) - A Jamaat leader of Dakop Upazila in Khulna was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Bhanga area of Faridpur early today.

The deceased was identified as Moulana Abu Sayeed, 52, Ameer of Dakop Upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islam in Khulna, son of late Shohor Ali Sheikh and the injured were identified as Md Anisur Rahman and Md Kamal Hossain.

According to Police and Jamaat leaders, the accident took place at Bhanga Chourasta intersection in Faridpur around 3.00am when a passenger bus of Royal Paribahan ran the three Jamaat men as they were taking tea at a roadside tea stall.

Their fellow colleagues and local people immediately rushed them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) where duty doctor declared Sayeed dead. 

The two injured were admitted to hospital in critical condition.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Police Station Mohammad Ashraf Hossain said the Jamaat leaders and activists were going to Dhaka for joining a rally. 

At around 3.00am they were drinking tea at a roadside tea stall parking their bus beside Khulna-Dhaka highway.

At one stage, they were trying to tie their banner properly with their vehicle while the bus hit them from behind.

The body of Sayeed was taken to his residence at Gourkathi village of chalna in Dakop upazila today, said Munsi moinul Islam, Assistant Secretary of Khulna District Unit Jamaat.
