164th birth anniversary of scientist APC Roy celebrated in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 02, 2025 (BSS) - The 164th birth anniversary of globally renowned scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy (APC Roy) was celebrated in Paikgacha in the district with befitting manner. 

Marking the day, a commemorative and discussion meeting was held at the scientist's ancestral home in Raduli Union of Paikgacha Upazila.

Khulna District Administration organized the programme in cooperation with Paikgachha Upazila Administration and Raduli Union Parishad.

Khulna Regional Director of the Department of Archaeology, Lovely Yasmin, addressed the event as the chief guest, while UNO Maheera Nazneen presided over the session. 

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Akhtar Hossain, Principal of Paikgacha Government College Samaresh Roy, Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Ariful Islam and Officer-in-Charge of Paikgachha police station Md Riyad Mahmud, among others, addressed the event.

The event began with floral tributes offered at the portrait of the scientist. Following the discussion, winners of essay and art competitions were awarded prizes.

Speakers remarked that scientist P.C. Ray was a multifaceted genius, industrialist, chemist, educationist, social reformer, politician and pioneer of the cooperative movement. 

He is not only a pride of Paikgacha but of the entire nation. His life and ideals must be passed on to future generations, they emphasized, urging students to read more about his life and work.
