DHAKA, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS) - Police today in separate raids arrested two suspected drug peddlers and seized 17,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and two vehicles used in drug trafficking from the capital's Uttara and Jatrabari police stations.
The arrested have been identified as Anwar Hossain alias Anna (42) and Shahed Ali (36).
A team of Uttara West Police Station arrested Anwar with 8000 pieces of Yaba and a private car used for transporting Yaba in a raid at Sector-12 of Uttara at 12:40 pm today, said a police press release.
During the preliminary interrogation, Anwar confessed that the seized Yaba tablets were collected from Cox's Bazar and were being transported to the Uttara West Police Station area for sale.
Multiple cases have been registered against the arrested Anwar in various police stations of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
In another raid, a Gulshan division team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Shahed along with 9000 pieces of Yaba tablets and a microbus used in transporting of the drugs in Matuail Ring Road area on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway under Jatrabari Police Station at 2:05 pm today, police said in a press release.
Following intelligence information that drug traffickers would enter Dhaka with a consignment of drugs, the DB team took position in the Matuail Ring Road area and intercepted a Dhaka bound microbus at Matuail and arrested Shahed along with the vehicle and the Yaba tablets, it said.
Two separate cases were lodged under the Narcotics Control Act with Jatrabari and Uttara West Police Stations in these connections.
