CHATTOGRAM, Aug 6, 2025 (BSS)- Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today called for raising awareness to keep the city clean and beautiful saying city residents must take responsibility in developing the habit of not throwing garbage in drains and streets instead of disposal those in designated areas.
He mentioned that the CCC is conducting regular cleanliness drive, but a permanent solution to this issue is unattainable without citizen awareness. CCC mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain made these remarks while inspecting the water flow situation following heavy rains in Chattogram city.
On Wednesday morning, he visited various parts of the city including Kapasgola, Chawkbazar, Katalganj, Munshipukur Par, Badurtala and Tupiwalapara areas.
During the inspection, two factors were identified for causing the water logging problem in the Katalganj-Buddhist Temple area of the city.
The primary reason for the water logging was identified as the continuous flow of water in the Hijra Canal and the large drain connected to the canal near Buddhist temple.
In response, the Mayor directed the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) to expedite the renovation works of the Hijra Canal and directed the CCC conservation department to remove more soil from the large drain connected to the canal.
Following the inspection, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to permanently solve the water logging problem in the city.
In addition to the drainage system management by the CCC, relevant agencies such as WASA, CDA and Water Development Board must properly clean and repair canals and drains.
