NARAYANGANJ, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment and her lover to death sentence over the murder case of her husband in Sonargaon of the district in 2022.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 Md. Aminul Haque delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon, said Police Inspector Qayum Khan of the Narayanganj court.

The convicted persons are Shahinur Akhter, daughter of late Abdul Aziz of Kanchpur area and Ripon Mia, son of late Abul Hashem of Chengain area in Sonargaon.

Ripon Mia was present in the court at the time of the verdict, but Shahinur Akhter was absconding, Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Md. Nazrul Islam Masum said.

According to prosecution story, on September 24, 2022, Shahinur Akhter, along with her alleged lover Ripon Mia, first electrocuted her husband, deed writer Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, and made him unconscious. Later, he was drowned in water inside the bathroom.

Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan's elder brother Solaiman Bhuiyan filed a case in this connection.

Later, the police arrested Ripon.
