RAJSHAHI, Sept 5, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested a man accused in five cases with a large consignment of alcohol from Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi in the early hours of today.

The detainee was identified as Asstanur Rahman, 59, a resident of Bhabaniganj Schoolpara under the upazila.

He was arrested around 12:30 am during a drive in Bhabaniganj Bazar area, a RAB press release said.

The elite force also recovered 5,520 bottles of alcohol from his shop "Maruf Homeo Hall" and its warehouse.

RAB said Asstanur had long been selling alcohol and other illegal drugs in the guise of running a homeopathic medicine business.

He allegedly supplied alcohol-laced drugs containing up to 90 percent alcohol to local youths under the cover of homeopathy.

RAB also noted that such toxic liquor has recently caused several deaths in different parts of Rajshahi. The arrestee had earlier been accused in five cases under narcotics and other laws.

A fresh case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed against him with Bagmara Police Station.
