PATUAKHALI, Oct 2, 2025 (BSS) - A traditional ‘Sharadiya Boat Race’ was held at Dashmina Upazila of Patuakhali as part of the ongoing Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations this afternoon.

The race took place at Nabaran Kabiraj Bari pond in Dashmina Sadar Union, continuing a 50-year-old Bijoya Dashami tradition. 

Six teams participated in the colorful competition, drawing thousands of spectators from surrounding areas.

Hashem Fakir's team clinched first place, while Shah Alam's team and Lal Mia's team secured second and third positions respectively.

Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury attended the event as the chief guest, while President of the Puja Celebration Committee at Nabaran Kabiraj Bari, Sri Shubhamoy Krishna Das, presided over the function.

Patuakhali Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jewel Rana, Dashmina Upazila Nirbahi Officer Irtiza Hasan, BNP Central Executive Committee Member Md. Hasan Mamun, Dashmina Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdul Alim and Dashmina Upazila BNP President Abdul Alim Talukder were present as special guests.
