RANGPUR, Oct 10, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 8,59,473 children and adolescents, aged between nine months and 15 years, will receive the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) in Rangpur district as part of a month-long nationwide vaccination campaign starting from October 12.

Of the total, 2,10,619 children and adolescents will be vaccinated across all 33 wards of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), while 6,48,854 will be covered in the district's eight upazilas.

These figures were shared during two separate press conferences held on Thursday, one at the RpCC conference room and the other at the District Civil Surgeon's Office auditorium at Sadar Hospital.

RpCC Administrator Mohammad Ashraful Islam and District Civil Surgeon Dr Shahin Sultana outlined their respective preparations to ensure the success of the Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025.

So far, 1,81,009 children and adolescents in the eight upazilas and 40,852 in RpCC area have been registered for the vaccine. However, officials confirmed that all eligible children, whether registered or not, will be vaccinated within the scheduled timeframe.

The vaccine will be provided free of cost to children from pre-primary level up to class nine (or equivalent), with each child receiving a single dose.

RpCC Administrator Ashraful Islam announced that he will formally inaugurate the campaign at Rangpur Police Lines School and College on October 12, where around 2,000 students are set to receive the vaccine on the first day.

He also reassured the public, "The typhoid vaccine is safe and has no side effects."

At the second press conference, Civil Surgeon Dr Shahin Sultana said that Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal will inaugurate the upazila-level campaign at Dhaperhat Government Primary School in Sadar upazila on Sunday.

To support the campaign, 5,748 volunteers organized into 1,916 teams will be deployed across the district. These teams will administer vaccines at 3,273 educational institutions during the first phase of the campaign.

RpCC Chief Health Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taj also addressed questions from local journalists, providing further details on campaign logistics and safety measures.

Health authorities and local officials urged parents and guardians to cooperate fully to ensure maximum coverage and protect children from typhoid, a serious but preventable disease.
