One held with blackstone Vishnu idol in Savar

SAVAR, Oct 10, 2025 (BSS) - Police have recovered a rare blackstone Vishnu idol, estimated value of Taka 1.2 crore, and apprehended a person in Hemayetpur of Savar.

Confirming the matter, Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jewel Mia said acting on a tip-off, a team from the Savar Tannery Police Outpost conducted a raid on Thursday afternoon in the Hemayetpur area. 

During the operation, Delwar Hossain, 61, was apprehended and the idol, which had been concealed inside an old refrigerator carton, was seized.

The recovered idol, crafted from blackstone, measures 50 inches in length and 21 inches in width, and weighs approximately 165 kilograms. Authorities suspect it was being prepared for smuggling abroad.

Delwar Hossain, son of the late Abul Hossain of Gowlmari village under Daudkandi in Cumilla, currently resides in Darussalam Tower, Dhaka.

The OC added that a case has been filed under the Special Powers Act of 1974, and further legal proceedings are underway.
