KHULNA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - A team of the joint forces on Monday arrested an
alleged robber, an associate of notorious pirate group "Chhoton Bahini" of
the Sundarbans, from Koyra upazila in Khulna.

The forces also seized arms and ammunition from his possession during the
drive, Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, media officer of Bangladesh Coast
Guard (BCG), confirmed today.

The arrested was identified as Sagar Sheikh, 41, previously known as Joy Shil
before converting to Islam, a resident of Koyra upazila.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque said acting on a tip-off, the members of
Bangladesh Navy and BCG conducted a joint drive into the Khashitana Canal
adjacent to the Raynodi area around 9am on Monday while "Chhoton Bahini" was
preparing for robbery.

During the operation, the team chased the pirates and detained Sagar Sheikh
with a single-barrel gun, two live cartridges and three empty shells while
the remaining pirates managed to flee in the deep forest.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the arrested had long been assisting
the pirate gang by supplying weapons, ammunition and logistics, he said.

"Legal actions have been initiated against him," he said, adding that
operations will continue to keep the Sundarbans free from bandit activities.
