CHATTOGRAM, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS)- Staff of Bangladesh Wildlife Rescue Team in
the district today rescued a King Cobra (Raj Gokhra) from a hunter in
Mithashara Bazar of Mirsarai upazila here and kept it under the supervision
of Bangladesh Forest Department.

A Hillman in Mithashara Bazar had been terrorizing people by catching a snake
and using it to extort money.

"The snake has now been rescued and is receiving treatment," Naimul Islam
Niloy, joint general secretary of Bangladesh Wildlife Rescue Team,
Chattogram, confirmed.

He reported that the Hillman had been threatening locals for a week by
displaying the snake wrapped around his body.

The man was caught while trying to sell the snake, which was recovered from
him on Tuesday afternoon following a tip-off, he added.

It was revealed that the man had been illegally keeping the King Cobra for a
long time and was using it to extort money by threatening people. Upon
receiving the information, the snake was rescued with the help of locals who
posed as buyers, ensuring its safety.

The snake was seriously injured after its fangs were pulled out. It is
currently receiving treatment under the care of Bangladesh Forest Department
herpetologist Sohel Rana Saikat.

Once the eight-foot long snake fully recovers, it will be released back into
the forest by the Forest Department.

Saikat mentioned that the snake's condition is critical with the removal of
teeth and a head injury. Treatment is ongoing, and they are hopeful for a
recovery within the next two to three days, he added.
