RANGPUR, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - Ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Elections,
3,000 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in 74 platoons have been deployed
in four districts of greater Rangpur to control the law and order situation
and maintain peace.

Rangpur Sector Commander Colonel SM Shafiqur Rahman disclosed this
information to local journalists after inspecting the BGB check post in the
Park Intersection area of the metropolis on Saturday.

BGB officials were present at the time.

He told reporters that 74 BGB platoons have been deployed in 26 base camps in
Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts of greater Rangpur
under the BGB Rangpur sector.

"BGB members are working as a mobile and striking force, including flawless
security and establishment of check posts in the electoral area. BGB has paid
special attention to maintaining peace and order in the risky centers of
these districts," he said.

SM Shafiqur Rahman said that BGB has mainly started performing its duties as
a mobile and striking force.

Search operations are underway to provide security in the election area. In
addition, dog squads have been deployed at various places considering the
risk. Patrols and intelligence surveillance have also been increased.

He further said that security has been strengthened along the 4,427-kilometer
border across the country. BGB's Rapid Action and Quick Response Force are
ready to deal with any emerging situation.

Colonel Shafiqur Rahman said that BGB has increased the dynamics of its
activities through digital sensors such as drones, body cameras, and CCTV
cameras.

"BGB is the vigilant guard of the border. We want to work as a symbol of
people's trust. Therefore, BGB will work with utmost professionalism to
conduct the Jatiya Sangsad Elections in a free, fair, and festive
atmosphere," he said.

He further said that there are 2,572 polling stations in four districts of
greater Rangpur. Out of these, 600 are risky centers.

"We have intelligence surveillance in these centers. Besides, representatives
of the BGB coordination team are working at the district and upazila levels.
We will be able to reach there as soon as any incident occurs," he added.
