1,500 distressed people receives VGF rice before Eid in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, March 12, 2026 (BSS) - Around 1,500 underprivileged people in Ghorshal union of Sadar upazila received government rice assistance ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.

The distribution programme was inaugurated at 10:00 am on Thursday at Ghorshal union parishad premises.

Union Parishad Chairman Parvez Masud Lilton formally launched the rice distribution programme. 

Among others present at the event were Tag Officer Sandeep Kumar, Ghorshal Union Parishad Administrative Officer Waheduzzaman, and several Union Parishad members.

According to the Union Parishad administration, a total of 1,554 beneficiaries from 14 villages in Ghorshal union received rice under the VGF programme. 

Each beneficiary was given 10 kilograms of rice, and a total of 388 maunds of rice were distributed during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Parvez Masud Lilton said that the rice was distributed as an Eid gift from the Prime Minister to support poor and helpless people.

"We are working sincerely to ensure that the poor and helpless receive food assistance during Eid," he said.

The initiative is part of the government's effort to provide food support to low-income families so they can celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr with greater ease.
