RANGPUR, March 16, 2026 (BSS) - The newly appointed Administrator of Rangpur City Corporation, (RpCC) Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don joined his office at the Nagar Bhaban in a festive atmosphere today.

While exchanging views with journalists soon after joining his post, Mahfuz Un Nabi Don said that he wants to work as a servant for the citizens, not as an administrator, regardless of party affiliation, for development of the city.

“The main goal of my work will be to make a planned, clean and green city through coordinated efforts and with assistance of all citizens. My first task as an administrator will be to eliminate discrimination," he said.

Mahfuz Un Nabi Don said, “Those who will be with me will be safe, just as those who will not be with me will be safe. No discrimination will be shown to anyone. We want to provide the benefits that citizens deserve, above party affiliation,” he said.

Don, former Rangpur District Chhatra Dal President and incumbent Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Member-secretary also assured of taking all necessary initiatives so that citizens can easily get their deserved services.

Regarding budget inequality, he said, Rangpur has been suffering from budget inequality for a long time.

“Due to this budget inequality, we are far behind other city corporations in the country. We have many challenges ahead of us. We will take all kinds of initiatives to reduce budget inequality by facing the challenges,” he said.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is aware of the budget inequality in Rangpur. He is with us and is very sincere in the development of Rangpur.

“I want to make planned developments with everyone for Rangpur in the coming days,” he said.

Regarding Shyamasundari Canal, he said, Shyamasundari Canal, known as the lungs of Rangpur, has become an unclean place today due to the lack of a long-term plan. For this, first, short-term initiatives will be taken to clean up Shyamasundari Canal.

“Subsequently, through a long-term plan, I want to give Shyamasundari Canal as a healthier and eco-friendly gift for the city. This requires time. We have to plan and move forward for implementation of that,” he said.

Earlier, the newly appointed administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don arrived at the city hall at 9 am.

After exchanging greetings with senior officials of the city corporation, he went to each section of the Nagar Bhaban and inspected the ongoing activities there.

Earlier, former popular student leader Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don was appointed as the administrator of the Rangpur City Corporation through a notification issued by the local government on Saturday afternoon.
