Re-excavation of two canals begins in Madaripur

MADARIPUR, April 18, 2026 (BSS)- Re-excavation work of two canals, total five and a half kilometers in length, began today in the Dasara and Kalkini upazilas of the district.

Member of Parliament for the Madaripur-3 constituency Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon inaugurated the re-excavation work. 

Dasara Upazila Executive Officer Jakia Sultana and Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Hafizur Rahman; Kalkini Upazila Executive Officer Saif-Ul Arefeen and Project Implementation Officer Md. Sohel Rana; Kalkini Upazila BNP President Fazlul Haque Bepari; and proposed President of Dasara Upazila BNP Alauddin Talukder, were present, among others.

Relevant officials reported that these canals are being re-excavated with funding from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. 

In Dasara upazila, approximately two and a half kilometers of canal will be re-excavated, stretching from Khalil's house in the South Bhautli area to Pathuriapara. 

Meanwhile, in Kalkini upazila, approximately three kilometers of canal will be re-excavated in the Madhyachar area.

Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon said, re-excavation has begun as per 31-point development agenda announced by the Prime Minister before the national election. The initiative will make significant contributions to the overall development of the country, he said.
