155 sacks of smuggled cumin seized, two held in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two individuals with 155 sacks of cumin illegally brought from India during a drive here in the district.

Besides, the DB police seized the truck used for smuggling the contraband. The recovered cumin is estimated to be worth approximately Tk 27 lakh 90 thousands.

The drive was conducted on Friday noon in front of Lal Mia Petrol Pump in the Gokulnagar area under Raipura Upazila. 

Narsingdi District Police Superintendent Abdullah Al-Faruk confirmed the arrest and seizure.

The arrestees were identified as Aynal Fakir alias Sagar (38) from Sirajganj district and Md. Shahin Molla (33).

He said police stopped a truck and, upon searching, discovered 155 sacks of Indian cumin hidden in the vehicle body. The total weight of the seized cumin is 4,650 kgs.

The seized goods have been confiscated, and legal proceedings are underway against the arrested individuals at Raipura Police Station, according to police sources.

Police Superintendent Abdullah Al-Faruk said, "The cumin has been seized as the arrested individuals failed to present valid documents. They have admitted that the goods were brought from India."
