
KUSHTIA, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today said the government has taken various programmes to develop the country’s south-western region.
"Solar power extension, agricultural revolution will be executed as part of the integrated plan," he said.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion titled 'Development Bangladesh: What Kind of South-west Region Do We Want' at Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman auditorium of Khustia Islamic University here this afternoon.
Greater Kushtia Officers' Welfare Forum, Dhaka hosted the discussion with its President Dr KM Kabirul Islam in the chair.
The minister pledged ensuring a fair share of development in the south-western region, saying that the government will set up cold storage to preserve onions and ongoing development programmes will be implemented rapidly.
Distribution of farmer cards has already begun for the convenience of the farmers and initiative of launching family card is also underway, he said.
The minister stressed the need for developing modern commodity preservation system aiming at strengthening the agro-based economy.
Islamic University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah spoke at the function as special guest.
Lawmakers from Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga and Jenaidah also spoke at the function.
