Historic May Day observed in Magura

MAGURA, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - Historic May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day-2026 were observed in Magura today with the theme "Healthy Workers, Productive Hands, A New Dawn Awaits".

On the occasion, a discussion meeting and cheque distribution programme was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office this morning.

The programme was jointly organized by the Magura District Administration and the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, Jashore.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud presided over the discussion, while Magura-1 constituency Member of Parliament Md. Monowar Hossain attended as the chief guest.

Speakers at the programme stressed the importance of ensuring workers' health and safety, along with creating a secure and conducive working environment in all workplaces.

Later, cheques totaling Tk 405,000 were distributed among 10 workers as financial assistance, with varying amounts allocated to each recipient.

Earlier in the day, a colourful rally was brought out from the Deputy Commissioner's office premises. 

The rally paraded through different important roads of the town before returning to the same venue. Various workers' unions also brought out separate rallies to mark the day.
