KHULNA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KUC) Nazrul Islam Manju today stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the government and non-government organisations to face the impacts of climate change.

“We have to understand the problems faced by climate-affected people and work collectively based on their opinions to resolve those problems,” he said while addressing a stakeholders’ workshop held in the city aiming to support the formulation of a national strategy on climate change-related loss and damage and enhance climate resilience in Bangladesh.

The workshop, “Multi-Actor Partnership on Climate Change Related Loss and Damage, Supporting the Establishment of the National Mechanism on Loss and Damage in Bangladesh”, was organised by the NGO Adams Foundation at Hotel City Inn in Khulna.

Head of the Environmental Science Discipline at Khulna University Prof Dr Md Mujibur Rahman, Director of the Institute of Disaster Management at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Dr Md Shahjahan Ali, climate change expert Dr Fazle Rabbi Sadik Ahmed, Director of the Department of Environment Khondkar Md Fazlul Haque and KDA member Ruhul Amin Kutubuddin Ahmed spoke as special guests.

Project coordinators Zillur Rahman and Nur-E-Ilahi presented the concept paper on the project activities and multi-actor partnership.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal chaired the workshop while Mahbubur Rahman presented the keynote paper.

Deputy Executive Director of Adams Foundation Ashik Mahmud delivered the welcome speech.
The project is being implemented locally by Adams Foundation, nationally by ICCAD and internationally by Germanwatch.

The organisers said the objective of the workshop was to assist the relevant government agencies in formulating a national loss and damage strategy based on the opinions of local government and non-government stakeholders, civil society representatives, colleges and university academics, as well as the needs of climate migrants.

Officials from different government and private organisations, representatives of various ward-level CCD committees and journalists participated in the workshop.
