Fire Service Week begins in Gaibandha with awareness call

GAIBANDHA, MAY 20, 2026 (BSS) - Fire Service and Civil Defense Week-2026 commenced across the district today with the theme "Only one path for fire fighters, we will keep our wealth and lives safe", aiming to boost public awareness against fire incidents and natural disasters.

An inaugural ceremony, chaired by Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Md. Mahmudul Hasan, was held at the town office premises this morning. 

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Masuder Rahman Mollah attended as the chief guest, while Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Jashim Uddin was present as the special guest. Station Officer Rifat Al-Mamun and volunteer Jannatul Israt also addressed the gathering.

Speakers praised the fire service personnel for risking their lives to safeguard the public during both man-made and natural disasters, highlighting their vital work in extinguishing fires, executing rescues, and transporting critical patients.

In his address, DC Masudur Rahman Mollah noted that the government has established fire stations in every upazila of the district to ensure rapid emergency responses. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, modern equipment and pragmatic measures are continually enhancing the force's capacity and efficiency.

The event concluded with the DC distributing certificates to volunteers who completed specialized training in search, rescue, first aid and firefighting. 

Station Officer Rifat Al-Mamun announced that the week-long program will feature continuous public outreach, including leaflet distribution, safety inspections, training rehearsals and cultural functions.
