MANIKGANJ, May 26, 2026 (BSS) - The 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated at the Kacharibari premises of Teota Jaminder under the Shibabalaya Upazila of the district yesterday.

Under the auspices of the district administration and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs with assistance from the Shibalaya upazila administration organized the programme with due festivity.

The programmes included placing floral wreaths at the portraits of Kazi Nazrul Islam and his wife Promila Nazrul at Teota, cultural events, quiz competitions and discussions on the poet's life and literary works.

Prominent Nazrul researcher and retired additional secretary Md Zakir Hussain addressed the function as the chief speaker, while Deputy Commissioner Nazmun Ara Sultana chaired the programme.

Artists from different cultural organisations performed Nazrul songs and recited poems at the event.

The speakers also stressed the need for spreading Nazrul's literary works among students across the country while exchanging views at the event.
