COX'S BAZAR, May 26, 2026 (BSS) - A housewife was killed after being struck by lightning during heavy rain in Ujantia union of Pekua upazila of the district on this morning.
 
The deceased was identified as Rakiba Jannat Munni, 20, wife of Sadek Ahmed, a resident of Tekpara area of the upazila.
 
According to police and family members, at around 9:30 am, a lightning strike hit the corner of the couple's tin-shed house, damaging part of the roof before striking the veranda.
 
At the time of the incident, Munni was sitting on the veranda and got struck. She sustained severe injuries after being hit by the lightning.
 
Family members immediately took her to Pekua Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
