
SATKHIRA, May 26, 2026 (BSS) - Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a motorcycle in Tala upazila of Satkhira district this morning.
The accident occurred around 6:00 am in front of Tetulia Jame Mosque on the Khulna-Paikgachha road.
The deceased were identified as motorcycle rider Nasim Fakir, 36, son of Khokon Fakir of Prasadpur village under Khalilnagar union in Tala upazila and his pillion passenger Mehedi Hasan, 18, son of Hafizul Fakir of the same village.
Police and eyewitnesses said Nasim Fakir was heading towards Chuknagar early in the morning to collect fish for his farm, with Mehedi Hasan accompanying him on the motorcycle.
On the way, a pickup van bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-A-14-1554 coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with their motorcycle.
Following the impact, the motorcycle was crushed under the pickup van, killing Nasim Fakir on the spot and critically injuring Mehedi Hasan.
Locals, along with fire service personnel and police, recovered Nasim Fakir's body from the road.
Mehedi Hasan was rescued in critical condition and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he died around 9:30 am while undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station Md Shahidul Islam Hawlader confirmed the incident, saying Nasim Fakir died at the scene and legal procedures, including post-mortem examination, would be completed before handing over the body to the family.
He also confirmed that Mehedi Hasan died at Khulna Medical College Hospital and his post-mortem would be conducted there.
